As a Business Webmaster & SEO, I use a variety of methods to optimize the performance of my clients’ websites, including Google Search Console, formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools.
Since Website Webmasters are essentially Website Administrators, I care about the healthy operation of my client’s website. The tools within Search Console lets me continuously monitor and in some cases resolve server errors, site load issues, and security issues like hacking and malware. I can also use it to ensure any site maintenance or adjustments I make happen smoothly with respect to search performance.
Search Console helps me monitor my client’s website traffic, optimize their ranking, and make informed decisions about the appearance of their site’s search results. I use some of the information in Search Console to influence my technical decisions to optimize their website, as well as performing some marketing analysis in conjunction with their Google Analytics reports.
If I am creating the actual code for my client’s site, Search Console helps me monitor and resolve common issues with markup, such as errors in structured data.
Search Console enables me to perform the following actions:
- Confirm that Google can find and crawl your site.
- Fix indexing problems and request re-indexing of new or updated content.
- View Google Search traffic data for your site: how often your site appears in Google Search, which search queries show your site, how often searchers click through for those queries, and more.
- Receive alerts when Google encounters indexing, spam, or other issues on your site.
- Show which sites link to your website.
- Troubleshoot issues for AMP, mobile usability, and other Search features.
